E-Bike Insurance — What You Need to Know
To be eligible for a Sundays Insurance policy, you must meet the following requirements:
- Be over 18 years of age
- Be a resident of Canada (in Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, Manitoba, or Nova Scotia)
- Be the owner of the bicycle
- Not be a sponsored or professional cyclist
Your bicycle must also be located in Canada at the time you apply, and it must be used recreationally only — not for professional use, courier services, or the carriage of passengers.
Who is not eligible:
- Professional cyclists (those who ride or race as their primary source of income)
- Sponsored cyclists (those who receive $2,500+ in financial or non-financial support from sponsors in a 12-month period)
- Couriers or individuals using bikes for commercial delivery
- Trikes and Tricycles
Bicycle eligibility:
- Your bike must have a market value of at least $300
- Online quotes are available for bikes valued up to $21,500
- Bikes purchased new must have been bought within the past five years for an online quote (older bikes may still be covered — call to discuss)
- E-bikes must be electric pedal-assist bikes that comply with provincial law; retrofitted, throttle-only, or homemade e-bikes are not eligible

Under provincial guidelines, only the following bikes are insurable:
- Traditional-style Class 1 bikes governed to a maximum speed of 32 km/hour
- Class 2 e-bikes with pedal assist and a throttle, governed to a maximum speed of 32 km/hour
